OCEAN OF MERCY

"Ocean of Mercy" is a gentle, pleading Offertory hymn composed by Emmanuel Atuanya. Though the manuscript bears a dedication to Mary under her title as "Ocean Star," the song itself is directed entirely to God, carrying a deep sense of reverence and petition. It is designed for the presentation of the gifts, where the choir and congregation bring forward the bread, the wine, and their very hearts to the altar.

The lyrics draw a clear parallel between the gifts offered by the priest today and the ancient, acceptable sacrifice of Abel. As the verses progress, the choir names each offering in turn—the general gifts, the bread, the chalice, and finally, the hearts of the faithful. With each verse, the congregation asks the Lord not only to receive their earthly offerings but to receive, bless, and protect the people themselves.
