About Introit - Holy Thursday Nos Autem
As the choir processes in for the Evening Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday, "Nos Autem" sets a profound tone for the beginning of the Paschal Triduum. The text immediately draws the congregation's focus to the central mystery of the days ahead: that we must glory in the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, for in Him is our salvation, life, and resurrection. It is a moment of solemn anticipation in the liturgy, shifting our hearts toward the passion and the ultimate victory of the cross.
This particular handwritten arrangement beautifully bridges the universal tradition of the Church with local devotion. It opens with the traditional Latin introit and its accompanying Psalm verse ("Deus misereatur nostri"), meant to be sung with a measured, chant-like reverence. Following the Latin, the score transitions into a vibrant Igbo adaptation, "Okwesiri ekwesi na anyị ga-egori." Singing this translation allows the faithful to internalize the profound mystery of the cross in their mother tongue, uniting the ancient words of the liturgy with the immediate, heartfelt worship of a Nigerian parish.
