NKWERURUM (Credo in Ikwerre)

When we sing the Credo, we are doing more than just reciting doctrine—we are standing together as a community to declare the foundation of our faith. "NKWERURUM" is a vibrant setting of the Nicene Creed in the Ikwerre language, composed by Ukanyirioha Frank C. From the opening male voice intro to the resounding "Amin!" at the end, this piece gives choirs a powerful way to lead the congregation in the profession of faith.

The song moves steadily through the core mysteries of the Church. We begin by proclaiming our belief in one God the Father ("Nų otu Chiokuke Ndah"), before moving through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the presence of the Holy Spirit, and the unity of the Catholic and Apostolic Church. Singing the Creed in the local tongue brings a special kind of warmth and conviction to the Mass.
