National Medley

"National Medley" is a vibrant, multi-lingual choral arrangement created to celebrate the diverse cultural expressions of Nigerian praise. Originally compiled and arranged for the 2022 National Sports Festival in Delta State, this expansive piece weaves together beloved worship choruses from across the country into a single, continuous anthem of thanksgiving.

The medley takes the choir and congregation on a musical journey through several indigenous languages. It opens with the Urhobo reverence of "Jesu Ovie" before transitioning into energetic Igbo, Yoruba, and Edo praises, including familiar refrains like "Kabiyesi" and "Rhiekponmwen Baba." As the piece progresses, it embraces the Ijaw/Kalabari melodies of "Tamuno Oribime" and the Efik gratitude of "Amanam Obong," finally culminating in a grand, unified Igbo prayer, "Nna anyi no zi n'elu igwe."

Choirs often turn to comprehensive medleys like this for cultural Sundays, harvest thanksgivings, and national celebrations. By bringing together so many different ethnic expressions of faith—complete with shifting rhythms and dynamic vocal entries—the arrangement reflects a unified voice of worship.
