Mfumue, Yamba Ma-kabu

"Mfumue, Yamba Ma-kabu" is a vibrant Offertory song drawn from a Congolese (Kikongo) folk melody, arranged for choirs by Jude Nnam. The title translates to a plea for the Lord to receive our gifts. During the presentation of the gifts, this piece brings a rhythmic, joyful energy to the Mass as the congregation brings forward the bread, wine, and the fruits of their labor.

The lyrics move from offering general gifts ("makabu") to the specific elements of the Eucharist: bread ("mampa") and wine ("vino"), and even the choir's own song ("chorale"). The English verses provided in the score make it highly adaptable for bilingual parishes, allowing the choir to sing "Oh look at my hands, they are empty... Oh Lord what can I offer to you?" It is a humble yet lively expression of giving everything we have to God at the altar.
