Make Friends With Jesus

"Make Friends With Jesus" is a straightforward, encouraging hymn that invites the congregation to find a lifelong companion in Christ. The lyrics walk through the many ways Jesus supports us—offering peace, guiding our steps, and providing for our daily needs. It is a gentle reminder of the personal, caring nature of God, written in a way that feels both intimate and communal.

This piece works beautifully during the Offertory or as a Communion meditation, moments in the Mass when the faithful are reflecting on their personal relationship with the Lord. The simple, repetitive structure of the verses makes it easy for the assembly to internalize the message and join in the singing without needing to keep their eyes glued to a hymnal.

The chorus contrasts the temporary nature of human relationships with the enduring presence of Jesus. For a choir and congregation, singing lines like "Friends and families, kiths & kins may fail, Jesus abides always" brings a sense of deep reassurance, anchoring their faith in the one friend who shares in all their sorrows and joys.
