Mai Tsarki (Sanctus in Hausa) by Obioha Ogbonna — Lyrics
About Mai Tsarki (Sanctus in Hausa)
"Mai Tsarki" is a vibrant Hausa setting of the Sanctus, the great hymn of praise sung just before the Eucharistic Prayer. Composed by Obioha Ogbonna, the piece opens with the solemn, threefold declaration of God's holiness before flowing into a rhythmic and joyful "Hossana."
In the choir loft, this setting offers a beautiful balance of reverence and celebration. The voices build naturally from the majestic opening lines into the bright acclamations of the first verse, lifting the congregation into the heart of the Mass. A dedicated second verse delivers the Benedictus ("Mai albarka ne..."), welcoming the one who comes in the name of the Lord.
Originally dedicated to the union of Salomi James and Linus Nneji, the music carries a festive warmth that makes it especially fitting for wedding Masses and Sunday liturgies alike. Its clear phrasing and uplifting melody help the faithful join their voices with the angels in unceasing praise.
