About L'amoroso veleno
Pomponio Nenna was a composer of the late Renaissance and early Baroque periods. His secular madrigal L'amoroso veleno is written for SSATB voices and sets a passionate Italian text. The lyrics describe the sting of love as a venom that has entered the heart, causing the singer to weaken and fade away. The plea to the beloved not to flee, even though help is not requested, highlights the singer's utter devotion and the inescapable nature of this 'loving venom'. This setting for five voices offers a rich contrapuntal texture to explore the dramatic text.
