La fortuna by Giovanni Pagella — Lyrics
Lieve son al par del vento;
vario ho il volto, il piè fugace;
or m'adiro, e in un momento
or mi torno a serenar.
Sollevar le moli oppresse
pria m'alletta, poi mi piace d’atterrar
le moli stesse che ho sudato a sollevar.

About La fortuna
Giovanni Pagella's motet La fortuna is a secular Italian work for solo SA. The text describes the capricious nature of Fortune, who can be both benevolent and cruel. She is light as the wind, with a fleeting foot, changing from anger to serenity in an instant. She may help lift burdens, only to delight in casting them down again. The text contrasts how Fortune smiles on some, bringing clear skies and new growth, but turns a dark gaze on others, leaving them barren and lost.
