ONYENWANYI MEE EBERE

"Onyenwanyi Mee Ebere" is a solemn and deeply moving setting of the Kyrie, composed by Fr. Tony Umeh Okwy. Sung in Igbo, the words carry the familiar, earnest plea for mercy heard at the beginning of the Mass. It is used during the Penitential Rite, inviting the congregation to reflect and seek God's compassion before the liturgy proceeds.

The arrangement is built on a polyphonic structure, where the voices weave together in a continuous, echoing prayer. The soprano line leads with the cry "Onyenwanyi biko mee ebere doo," which is then answered and supported by the lower voices. As the piece transitions into the "Kristi mee ebere" section, the overlapping harmonies create a sense of communal supplication, making it a reverent and engaging choice for the choir loft.
