KYRIE ELEISON by NDUBUISI SAMUEL (3DFINGERS) — Lyrics
About KYRIE ELEISON
When we gather for Mass, our first collective act is to acknowledge our need for God's mercy. "Kyrie Eleison" from Ndubuisi Samuel's Missa-Amoris captures this profound moment of humility. Written for St. Rita's Choir at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Lusada, this setting strips away unnecessary complexity, allowing the voices to focus entirely on the ancient, simple plea: Lord, have mercy.
The arrangement moves with a steady, deliberate pace, marked Largo on the score, giving the choir room to breathe and blend. As the sopranos carry the familiar Greek text, the lower voices provide a grounded, reverent foundation. The transition into the "Christe eleison" lifts the petition slightly, before returning to the original "Kyrie" to close the rite.
Singing a piece like this requires attention to phrasing and vowel shapes. Because the words are so few, every syllable carries weight. It is a solemn, fitting way to prepare the congregation's hearts for the Liturgy of the Word, reminding us all of the gentle mercy that welcomes us to the altar.
