KYRIE ELEISON

When we prepare for Mass, the Penitential Rite sets the tone for everything that follows. This setting of the "Kyrie Eleison" by Ndubuisi Samuel, part of his *Missa Amoris*, offers a gentle and grounded plea for God's mercy. Written specifically for St. Rita's Choir at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Lusada, it carries the kind of localized warmth that makes a parish choir feel like a family.

The structure is straightforward and deeply traditional, moving from the opening "Kyrie eleison" to the "Christe eleison" and back again. Sung in four parts, the melody gives the soprano line a clear, unhurried path, allowing the congregation to easily absorb the prayer. The harmonies underneath provide a solemn but hopeful foundation, perfect for the early moments of the Sunday liturgy.

Rehearsing a piece like this reminds us of the core purpose of the choir loft: leading the people in sincere prayer. It does not overcomplicate the ancient Greek text.
