Kumama Yesu by Grace Lokwa, Prinx Emmanuel, Arr. Charles Onwubuya — Lyrics
About Kumama Yesu
"Kumama Yesu" brings an irresistible wave of joy to any thanksgiving service or choral celebration. Originally a viral praise anthem by Grace Lokwa and Prinx Emmanuel, this vibrant arrangement by Charles Onwubuya adapts the infectious Afro-gospel groove for the choir loft. It opens with the familiar Lingala cry of praise—thanking God for His adoption and love—before breaking into a rhythmic, layered choral texture.
What makes this arrangement so much fun to sing is how it builds. After the driving "Eh Yahweh" sections, the choir settles into a rhythmic "kumama" ostinato while the sopranos soar overhead with a bright Igbo thanksgiving melody ("Ọrụ ọma gị juru m ọnụ eh"). It is a perfect piece for concerts, youth choir anniversaries, or any moment where the congregation is invited to dance and celebrate God's goodness.
