Kringloop by Marijke de Kler — Lyrics
About Kringloop
Marijke de Kler’s motet Kringloop is a powerful setting of Dutch text adapted from the 15th-century preacher Johann Geiler von Kaysersberg. The work explores a cyclical view of history, where peace leads to wealth, wealth to pride, pride to war, war to poverty, and poverty back to humility and peace. The composer urges a breaking of this destructive cycle, with a direct plea for peace, “Dona nobis Pacem”. Scored for SATB choir, this sacred motet offers a profound meditation on human nature and the possibility of change, making it a thought-provoking addition to a choral programme.
