Komm, heiliger Geist by Johann Walter — Lyrics
Komm, Heiliger Geist, Herre Gott,
Erfüll mit deiner Gnaden Gut
Deiner Gläubigen Herz, Mut und Sinn,
Dein brünstig Lieb entzünd in ihn!
O Herr, durch deines Lichtes Glast
Zu dem Glauben versammelt hast
Das Volk aus aller Welt Zungen;
Das sei dir, Herr, zu Lob gesungen!
Halleluja!
Du heiliges Licht, edler Hort,
Lass uns leuchten des Lebens Wort
Und lehr uns Gott recht erkennen,
Von Herzen Vater ihn nennen!
O Herr, behüt vor fremder Lehr,

About Komm, heiliger Geist
This setting of the Pentecost hymn Komm, heiliger Geist by Johann Walter is suitable for SATB choirs. The text, sung in German and Dutch, is a fervent prayer for the Holy Spirit to fill believers' hearts and minds with divine grace, igniting their love for God. It calls for the Spirit's guidance in recognizing God as Father and holding fast to the true faith, protecting against false teachings. The hymn also pleads for steadfastness in God's service, even amidst tribulations, seeking comfort and joy in the Holy Spirit. Its sacred nature and hymnal form make it a fitting choice for services celebrating Pentecost or seeking spiritual renewal.
