About Jocundare filia Jerusalem - Quem vidistis pastores
Guillaume Le Heurteur's motet opens with joyful exclamations in Latin, celebrating the birth of Christ. The text, drawn from the Vulgate and a traditional Christmas sequence, urges Jerusalem to rejoice and lift its eyes to see the newborn King. The music reflects this festive mood, with the SATB voices weaving together in celebration. The second part of the motet shifts to question and answer, addressing the shepherds who witnessed the nativity. They recount seeing the child wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger. The choir vividly portrays the amazement of the shepherds and the miracle of the Virgin Mother, whose purity remains intact despite bearing God. The piece culminates in repeated exclamations of "Noe, noe," a traditional Christmas acclamation.
