JESU SACHAM by Ekwem Lilian — Lyrics
About JESU SACHAM
"Jesu Sacham" is a deeply moving Communion piece that captures the quiet reverence of approaching the altar. The title translates to "Jesus, wash me," setting a tone of humility and spiritual preparation. As we sing the opening lines, we ask God for forgiveness and new life, praying that He makes our hearts clean and ready to receive Him.
The verses draw beautifully from the liturgy itself. The second verse directly echoes the Centurion's prayer: "Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed." This makes it a perfect reflection for the Communion procession, guiding the congregation into a state of grace. Later in the piece, a soaring tenor solo brings a deeply personal touch, singing of a soul thirsting for God through the Holy Banquet. It is a wonderful choice for choirs looking to foster a spirit of true adoration and surrender during the Eucharistic feast.
