About Jesu, Redemptor

This hymn to Jesus, the Redeemer of all, reflects on his divine origin and his birth from the Virgin Mary. The text opens by proclaiming Jesus as the light and splendor of the Father, and the eternal hope of all. It then calls on the Redeemer to hear the prayers of his servants across the world, remembering his assumption of human form through birth from a Virgin. The present day, as it cycles through the year, testifies that Jesus is the world's salvation, who came from the Father's side. The stars, earth, and sky greet the author of new salvation with new song, and those washed by his sacred blood offer hymns of praise on his birthday. This setting is for SATB choir, sung in Latin.
