Jerusalem surge by Ludovico Balbi — Lyrics
Jerusalem surge, et sta in excelso, et vide
jucunditatem quae veniet tibi a Deo tuo.
About Jerusalem surge
Ludovico Balbi's Jerusalem surge is a vibrant SATB motet for mixed voices, setting a powerful Latin text. The music opens with an immediate sense of urgency and grandeur, reflecting the call to Jerusalem to rise and behold the joy to come. Balbi employs imitative writing and dynamic contrasts to depict the spiritual exultation and divine promise conveyed by the scripture. This is a compelling work, ideal for a choir seeking a substantial motet that builds to a glorious climax, suitable for communion or general sacred occasions.
