In partu dolor est

This sacred motet for two sopranos is ideal for Lenten services or general devotion. Friderici sets a Latin text that reflects on the mingled pain and joy of life, and the divine power that can transform sorrow into gladness. The composer's two-part writing offers a clear and devotional musical setting for the words, where the sweetness of the soprano voices can express the consoling message of the text. Its contrapuntal lines are accessible and rewarding for choirs seeking a concise yet meaningful sacred work.
