About In nativitatem Domini H 314
Marc-Antoine Charpentier's motet In nativitatem Domini sets a Latin text celebrating the Nativity of Christ. The SATB choir sings of shepherds asking each other who they have seen, and announcing to the world what has appeared. They have seen the newborn child, they sing, and choirs of angels praising him. The Lord has made known his salvation, revealing his justice to the earth. The motet concludes with a call to sing to the Lord with psaltery and psalms, with trumpets and horns, and with the sounding of the horn. Rivers are to clap their hands and mountains to exult, for he has come to save the earth.
