In hoc ergo sperabo by Pierre Moulu — Lyrics

Psalmus David, priusquam liniretur. Dominus illuminatio mea et salus mea: quem timebo? Dominus protector vitae meae: a quo trepidabo? Dum appropiant super me nocentes ut edant carnes meas, qui tribulant me inimici mei, ipsi infirmati sunt et ceciderunt. Si consistant adversum me castra, non timebit cor meum; si exsurgat adversum me praelium, in hoc ego sperabo. Unam petii a Domino, hanc requiram, ut inhabitem in domo Domini omnibus diebus vitae meae; ut videam voluptatem Domini, et visitem templum ejus. Quoniam abscondit me in tabernaculo suo; in die malorum abscondito me in tabernaculi sui. In petra exaltavit me, et nunc exaltavit caput meum super inimicos meos. Circuivi, et immolavi in tabernaculo ejus hostiam vociferationis; cantabo, et psalmum dicam Domino.

About In hoc ergo sperabo

This motet by Pierre Moulu for two sopranos and tenor draws on Psalm 27. The text begins with a declaration of faith and trust in God, even in the face of adversity. The singer asks, "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?" and resolves to place their hope in God, seeking to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of their life. Moulu sets this psalm with a focus on the direct expression of faith and reliance on divine protection. The intimate voicing for STT allows for clear articulation of the sacred Latin text, creating a devotional atmosphere.
