In dubbio di mio stato by Girolamo Scotto — Lyrics
About In dubbio di mio stato
Girolamo Scotto was a composer of secular vocal music in 16th-century Italy. This Italian madrigal for ATB voices explores the turmoil of a lover's heart. The text vividly expresses a state of constant emotional flux, oscillating between tears and song, fear and hope, sighs and rhymes. The speaker laments the relentless influence of Love upon their afflicted heart, questioning whether their beloved's face will ever restore light to their eyes or condemn them to eternal weeping. The music would have originally been set to lute accompaniment, typical of the genre.
