This grand motet for SATTB voices sets Psalm 125 (126), a psalm of ascents, traditionally sung during the Jewish pilgrimage to Jerusalem. The Latin text speaks of God restoring Zion's fortunes, filling the singers' mouths with joy and their tongues with exultation. It contrasts the tears of those who sow in sorrow with the joyous harvest reaped by those who return bearing their sheaves. Horatio Colombano’s setting, suitable for Vespers, captures the journey from lament to exultation, offering a profound reflection on divine restoration and the blessings of hard work rewarded.
