About Im Sommer
On a bright summer morning, the composer Moritz Hauptmann invites the choir to sing of the world's fresh beauty, from glistening fields and dew-laden plants to the lively songs of birds in the warm sun. This German SATB partsong then shifts focus to a more intimate scene. Where love is found, the text suggests, the outer world and its glories may fade from view. The music reflects this contrast between the expansive joy of nature and the quietude of affection, making it ideal for a moment of reflective beauty in a concert programme.
