About Il paladin col suono
Jacquet de Berchem was a Franco-Flemish composer of the Renaissance, active in Italy. He was a significant contributor to the madrigal genre, which flourished during this period. Il paladin col suono is a secular madrigal for SATB voices, sung in Italian. The text, taken from Ludovico Ariosto's epic poem Orlando Furioso, describes a warrior hearing the infernal sounds of harpies emerging from a cave. The music would likely reflect the dramatic and often intense imagery found in the poetry, a characteristic feature of the Italian madrigal.
