About Il Costante (Fin ch'avrò vita vò)
This delightful Italian madrigal expresses the unyielding devotion of a lover, who vows to follow love as long as he lives, hoping one day to find joy through his pursuit. He dreams of a day when his beloved might be his, imagining himself happier than anyone else. He longs for the moment his lady might welcome him into her arms, a day that would be forever happy and serene for him. Gastoldi’s setting for three-part male voices (SAB) is light and charming, typical of his accessible madrigal style, which proved immensely popular in its day.
