Ikwo Idara

"Ikwo Idara" is a vibrant Annang praise anthem that calls the entire congregation to their feet. Composed by Ini Abasi Ekanem, the piece is built around a central invitation: "Christians enek unek" (Christians, let us dance). It captures the infectious joy of Nigerian thanksgiving processions, where giving praise to God is not just spoken, but expressed through movement and celebration.

The score specifically directs the final section to be sung in the "Ekombi" dancing style, a traditional rhythm native to the Efik, Ibibio, and Annang people. As the choir layers bright, rhythmic repetitions of "Bo ekom do" (Receive our thanks) and "Idara" (Joy), the music naturally propels the liturgy forward. It is an excellent choice for the Offertory or as a Recessional hymn, leaving the church echoing with the joyful declaration that God's goodness overflows in our hearts.
