About Ich will mich mit dir verloben
Philipp Dulichius’s Ich will mich mit dir verloben opens with a flowing, imitative texture, a hallmark of the motet tradition. This German sacred setting weaves together its vocal lines with intricate care, building towards moments of gentle harmonic strength. The text, drawn from the prophet Hosea, expresses a profound promise of betrothal, a commitment made in righteousness, mercy, and faith. It speaks of a deepening knowledge of the Lord, unfolding with devotional intensity. Suitable for unaccompanied mixed-voice choir, this motet offers a contemplative and richly contrapuntal exploration of a deeply spiritual text, reflecting the composer’s skill in setting scripture with musical devotion.
