I was in the spirit on the lord's day. And I heard a great voice of much people in heaven saying Hallelujah.
Salvation and glory and honour and power unto the lord our god.
For true and righteous are his judgments. And again they said Hallelujah.
And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped god that sat on the throne saying Amen.

John Blow's I was in the spirit draws its text from the Book of Revelation, chapters 1 and 19. This sacred verse anthem vividly portrays the apocalyptic visions described in the biblical text, beginning with the ecstatic 'Hallelujah' sung by a great multitude in heaven. The music captures the grandeur and overwhelming power of these heavenly pronouncements, with the SATBB choir expressing the 'Salvation and glory and honour and power unto the lord our god'.
