I sing the birth by James Gibb — Lyrics
1. I sing the birth was born tonight,
The author both of life and light;
The angels so did sound it.
And like the ravish'd shepherds said,
Who saw the light, and were afraid,
Yet search'd, and true they found it.

About I sing the birth
James Gibb’s anthem I sing the birth is written for SATB choir and sets a devotional English text reflecting on the Nativity. The lyrics speak of the wonder and awe surrounding Christ’s birth, from the angels’ proclamation to the shepherds’ astonished discovery. The music conveys the humility of the divine infant laid in a manger, alongside the immense significance of this event as the salvation of humankind, the Creator of all things entering the world.
