I Have Decided to Follow Jesus

"I Have Decided to Follow Jesus" is one of those rare hymns that requires almost no introduction. Its simple, repetitive structure and clear message of absolute commitment make it a powerful choice for moments of personal dedication in the church. The melody, set here to a traditional Hindustani folk tune, carries a quiet but unshakeable resolve that builds with every verse.

For a choir, this piece shines during consecration, baptismal renewals, or as a recessional hymn sending the congregation out into the world. Because the lyrics are so straightforward—moving from the personal choice in the first verse to the ultimate question, "Will you decide now to follow Jesus?" in the last—it naturally invites the whole church to sing along. The final line of each stanza, "No turning back, no turning back," leaves a lingering sense of faith that stays with the singers long after the service has ended.
