Hymnus

This powerful setting of the Tenebrae responsories was written by Jakub Jan Ryba. Sung in Latin, it is appropriate for Holy Week and the solemn atmosphere of Tenebrae services. The text, Ecce quomodo moritur justus, reflects on the unjust suffering and death of the righteous man, comparing him to a lamb led to slaughter who remains silent. The SATB voicing allows for rich harmonic colours to underscore the poignancy of the words, creating a deeply moving experience for both choir and listeners. Ryba's composition masterfully conveys the sorrow and contemplation inherent in this ancient liturgical tradition.
