About Hunter’s Chorus
Horatio Richmond Palmer’s Hunter’s Chorus opens with a vigorous and exciting evocation of a morning hunt. The SATB voices are deployed with dramatic effect, conjuring images of rolling hills and echoing valleys, while the repeated ‘tan-ta-rah’ and ‘ho, ho, ho’ mimic the baying hounds and the sound of the horn. The text describes the exhilaration of the chase, the participants rallying to the field, bounding like the breeze, and dashing unheeding over every obstacle, driven solely by the call of the horn.
