About Hostis Herodes impie
This setting by Jacobus Vaet is a two-part sacred work in Latin. The text is a hymn, reflecting on the events of Christ's nativity and manifestation. It opens with a condemnation of Herod's fear, moving on to the Magi following the star and their recognition of Christ as God. The hymn then recounts the baptism of Christ and the miracle at Cana, where water was turned into wine, before concluding with a doxology of praise to Christ. Vaet's SB voicing would have been suitable for a variety of liturgical or devotional settings, typical of sacred music from this period.
