Hor mi mostra hor m'asconde

Leone Leoni's Hor mi mostra hor m'asconde is a secular Italian madrigal for SSATB voices. The music opens with a delightful interplay between the vocal lines, creating a lively and engaging texture. As the piece unfolds, the composer skillfully captures the volatile nature of the beloved, who both reveals and conceals her affections. The text speaks of the lady showing her joyful eyes and intoxicating the singer with delight, yet also of her smiling sweetly and then fleeing. This creates a sense of playful pursuit, masterfully depicted through the expressive vocal writing and the characteristic harmonic language of the madrigal.
