About Hor chio hor
Truid Aagesen was a composer of madrigals in the late Renaissance, a genre of secular Italian part-music. This setting, Hor chio hor, is for treble voices (SSB). The text speaks of finding oneself in a woodland setting, surrounded by tender herbs, and beginning to sing of the 'fierce child of Venus' – that is, Cupid. The music reflects the poetic imagery, moving from pastoral reflection to a more energetic evocation of the god of love.
