About Honneur sans plus
Lupus Hellinck was a Franco-Flemish composer of the High Renaissance. He was active in the generation between Josquin des Prez and Orlande de Lassus. His chanson Honneur sans plus is written for a five-part choir (STTT, SATT) and is sung in French. The text speaks of honor finding a place in a noble heart, and how good will, unstirred by dishonor, casts its desire and flame into counsel, ensuring that love proceeds without blame. The music would have been heard by contemporaries in the Low Countries and Italy, where such secular part-songs were immensely popular.
