Homo quidam

This impressive motet by Jacob Handl draws its text from the parable of the Great Supper, found in the Gospel of Luke. The narrative unfolds as a master invites guests to a magnificent feast, only to find they are all making excuses. The choir is challenged to convey the master's increasing urgency as he sends out his servants to gather others, declaring 'all things are ready.' The music reflects the gravity and eventual inclusivity of the invitation. This work for eight voices, comprising ATTTTB, TTTT, is a powerful example of sacred Renaissance polyphony, suitable for services during Ordinary Time or specific feast days. The Latin text, rich in biblical imagery, lends itself to solemn and reflective performance.
