COME HOLY GHOST

"Come Holy Ghost" is a gentle, earnest invocation to the Holy Spirit, perfect for Pentecost Sunday, Confirmations, or any liturgy where the congregation seeks divine guidance. Written by Ifeanyi Mbagwu, the piece centers on a simple, memorable refrain that calls upon the "advocate" to come down from heaven. While the sopranos carry the main English melody, the lower voices weave in a tender Igbo plea—"Bia o, biko bia" (Come, please come)—giving the harmony a deeply rooted, local resonance.

The verses walk the choir through a progression of spiritual needs. We first ask the Spirit to teach us how to pray and seek God's will, before moving to a prayer for our hearts to be filled with love. The final verse shifts the imagery beautifully, asking God to "send us the rain" and pour the "rain of your Spirit" upon the land.
