HOLY AND MIGHTY

When we sing "Holy and Mighty," we are lifting up one of the most beloved texts in the church—Reginald Heber's great hymn of adoration to the Trinity. But this isn't the traditional, stately hymn tune we all know from the pews. Pepper Choplin’s arrangement brings a fresh, rhythmic energy to the words, building layer upon layer of voices to create a true sense of majesty.

The piece opens with a driving, syncopated chant of "Holy, holy, holy and mighty," setting a pulse that carries the choir forward. As the familiar verses begin—"Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee"—the arrangement opens up, allowing the classic poetry of saints, cherubim, and seraphim casting down their crowns to shine through. It is a wonderful challenge for a choir, requiring tight rhythm and clear diction to keep the momentum alive.
