Hodie nobis caelorum rex

The words express the joyous news of Christ's birth, celebrating the King of Heaven deigning to be born of a virgin to lead lost humanity back to the heavenly kingdom. The text speaks of the joy of the angelic hosts at the appearance of eternal salvation for humankind, echoing the Gloria and the promise of peace on earth. Antonio Cifra's setting for SATB choir captures this sacred message in Latin, a responsory that would bring a sense of awe and divine celebration to any liturgical occasion or concert programme. The music allows the choir to convey both the profound significance of the Incarnation and the exultant praise of the angels.
