Hodie natus est Christus

This joyful motet celebrates the birth of Christ, with soaring Latin text declaring that this day the Saviour has appeared. Angels in heaven sing and archangels rejoice, while the righteous on earth exult, proclaiming glory to God. Jacob Regnart's SAATTB setting is a magnificent example of Renaissance sacred polyphony. The five voice parts interweave to create a rich and complex texture, perfectly suited to the jubilant message of the lyrics. The composer’s skillful use of imitation and contrapuntal lines builds towards the exultant cry of 'Gloria in excelsis Deo', making this a powerful and uplifting choral work.
