Hodie in Jordane by Maistre Jhan — Lyrics
About Hodie in Jordane
This motet celebrates the Baptism of Christ. The text, taken from the Gospels, describes the Holy Spirit descending like a dove upon Jesus in the Jordan, and the voice of God the Father proclaiming, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." The music is set for a large choir of eight parts (SATTBB, SAAATT), offering rich harmonic possibilities. The composer Maistre Jhan uses the Latin text to create a powerful and evocative musical setting appropriate for a significant liturgical occasion, perhaps Epiphany or a general feast day celebrating Christ's divine nature.
