Hodie beata virgo Maria

This SATB motet in Latin sets a text describing the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple. It recounts how the Blessed Virgin Mary presented her son, and how Simeon, filled with the Holy Spirit, took the child into his arms and blessed God. Marenzio’s setting captures the solemnity and devotion of this significant event in the liturgical year, offering a rich musical reflection on the prophecy fulfilled. This piece would be suitable for services during Candlemas or the seasons of Advent and Christmas.
