This grand motet in Latin celebrates Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor, as the offspring of heroes, the love of the world, and a protector of the arts. The text extols him as the sole benefactor of the Muses' students during troubled times, bestowing his gifts with a generous hand. Music herself gladly celebrates him and longs to raise him to the stars with praise for his merits, wishing him a long life as the greatest hope of the Austrian people. Composed by Orlando di Lasso for a substantial choir, this work is scored for two SATB choirs, with the upper parts for SAATTB and the lower for STTTTB, creating a rich and powerful sound ideal for festive occasions. It stands as a testament to Lasso's mastery of polyphony and his ability to craft moving tributes.
