About Hear our Prayer
This setting of the hymn "Rock of Ages" opens with a direct plea, "Hear, O Father, hear our prayer." The SATB choir is called upon to express the penitent's reliance on Christ's sacrifice for salvation. The text explores the inadequacy of human efforts to atone for sin, emphasizing the sole sufficiency of the "double cure" found in the blood and water from Christ's side. It moves from earthly supplication through a lifetime of devotion, to the final moments and the hope of beholding God on His throne, finding eternal security in Him.
