Havea per la sua Ninfa by Pomponio Nenna — Lyrics
About Havea per la sua Ninfa
Pomponio Nenna was a composer of the late Renaissance and early Baroque periods. His secular madrigal Havea per la sua Ninfa is written for SSATB voices and is sung in Italian. The text depicts Tirsi, heartbroken by his nymph Clori, lamenting his cruel love and calling upon nature to witness his suffering. He cries out to his unfeeling heart, wishing that if Clori ever passes by, she will see his anguish etched into the plants, a testament to his dying love for her. Nenna's setting would have originally been part of a collection of Italian polyphonic songs for mixed voices, characteristic of the era's rich tradition of secular vocal music.
