Haec est virgo sapiens by Nicolaus Gezin — Lyrics
About Haec est virgo sapiens
Nicolaus Gezin's motet Haec est virgo sapiens is a sacred work for four-part choir (ATTB), sung in Latin. The text, drawn from the New Testament parable of the wise and foolish virgins, describes the bride who is found watchful by the Lord. She has taken oil for her lamp and enters with the bridegroom into the wedding feast. The text also includes an address to a 'daughter', bidding her to listen and see, as the king has desired her beauty. This motet would be a fitting choice for services during the liturgical season of Advent, or for any occasion where the themes of readiness, anticipation, and divine union are appropriate.
