About Haec dies, Op. 2/5
The jubilant opening of this setting of the Easter Sequence proclaims, 'This is the day which the Lord hath made.' The composer's skillful interplay of the SATB voices immediately establishes a mood of exultation, before the jubilant Alleluia is unleashed. The text, a Latin paraphrase of Psalm 118, continues to explore themes of divine goodness and enduring mercy, particularly relating to Christ's sacrifice and resurrection. Each verse offers a different perspective on this central Easter event, inviting the choir to reflect on the joy and significance of the season. Bühler's setting is a powerful and uplifting expression of Easter joy, suitable for the liturgical context of Eastertide.
